Jewellery Care

At Lymeria, we want your jewelry to stay as radiant as the day it arrives.

That’s why every piece comes with a complimentary polishing cloth, and we carefully package your orders to protect the finishes during transport.

To help your treasures last longer, please read the care instructions below – tailored to each type of material we use.

925 Sterling Silver

Composition:

92.5% pure silver, alloyed with 7.5% copper for durability.

What to expect:

Sterling silver may naturally tarnish over time, especially when exposed to air, humidity, or skin oils. This is a normal process and not a defect.

Care tips:

  • Gently clean with a soft silver polishing cloth (included with your order)
  • Store in a dry, airtight pouch or box when not worn
  • Avoid contact with water, lotions, perfumes, or cleaning chemicals
  • Polish occasionally to restore shine

Copper

Composition:

Copper is a reddish-golden, non-precious metal used as a base for many jewellery items. It is soft, lightweight, and easy to shape, making it ideal for detailed designs. Often used underneath gold or platinum plating.

What to expect:

Copper can naturally oxidize over time, especially when exposed to moisture, air, or skin oils. This may lead to a darker tone or greenish residue on the skin – which is harmless and temporary. If plated, the coating may gradually wear off.

Care tips:

  • Store in an airtight pouch or jewellery box when not worn
  • Avoid exposure to water, perfumes, lotions, or sweat
  • Gently wipe with a dry, soft cloth after each wear
  • Remove before showering, exercising, or sleeping

Metal Alloys (Brass/Zinc)

Composition:

Metal alloys are blends of two or more metals (e.g., brass = copper + zinc). These materials are durable and often used as the base for gold- or platinum-plated jewellery.

What to expect:

Over time, alloy jewellery may tarnish or darken due to exposure to air and moisture. This is normal and doesn’t affect wearability. Some skin types may react mildly, depending on pH and usage.

Care tips:

  • Keep jewellery dry and avoid humid storage areas
  • Do not wear during sports, swimming, or while applying body products
  • Use a soft cloth to clean regularly
  • Store separately to prevent scratches

18K Gold Plated

Composition:

A base of 925 silver coated with a thin layer of 18-karat gold.

What to expect:

Gold plating is delicate and may wear off over time with friction, water exposure, or chemical contact.

Care tips:

  • Remove before showering, swimming, or exercising
  • Store separately to avoid scratches
  • Do not use harsh cleaning agents
  • Wipe gently with the included cloth after wearing

 Platinum Plated

Composition:

High-quality base metal (often silver or copper) plated with platinum for a premium finish and increased durability.

What to expect:

Platinum-plated jewelry offers a sleek, luxurious shine and is more resistant to tarnishing, but still requires gentle care.

Care tips:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or cosmetics
  • Store individually to prevent rubbing
  • Use a soft cloth for polishing – no abrasive materials

Rhodium Plated

Composition:

Usually applied over 925 silver, rhodium plating enhances brightness and prevents oxidation.

What to expect:

Rhodium is one of the most durable plating options, but even rhodium can fade with time.

Care tips:

  • Keep away from harsh chemicals (e.g., perfume, hair spray)
  • Do not polish too frequently to preserve the rhodium layer
  • Use only a soft, dry cloth to clean after wearing
